One of the best trails that you can hike in the United States is the Appalachian Trail. This is a trail that is 2,160 miles in length and covers states from Maine to Georgia. Almost anywhere that you see the Appalachian Trail you will find a park that protects it. This trail was constructed and designed in the 1920's and thirties by volunteer hiking clubs. The purpose of the trail was to have a super hike that encompassed the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains that run along the eastern part of the United States. Today the trail welcomes visitors from all over the country, with its unsurpassed scenic beauty and welcoming stops along the path that has been a wonder for many years.

Unlike the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest is more rugged and is a true die hard hiker's fantasy. While on this unique trail that runs from Mexico to Canada thru the rugged terrain of California, you can experience a vast array of climates. The trail gives hikers the most elevation changes of any other trail in the states. It goes through terrains that include the Sierra Nevada's and even the Mojave Desert. This is one trail that you can spend weeks on and never get bored. However, in order to conquer it you must be in top physical shape. Only three hundred hikers a year attempt to make it all the way from top to bottom.

The other of the hiking trails in the United States which is considered to be one of the best, is the Continental Divide Trail. This is a trail that snakes its way from Canada to Mexico via the Rocky Mountains. It also has tremendous climate changes that can keep a hiker on his or her toes for days on end. The trail offers breathtaking scenery that will keep you mesmerized for years to come.

No matter what area of the country you are looking to go hiking in, you can find one of the best hiking trails available. However, if you do not wish to travel you can always find a great forest or wooded area nearby that can offer you a substantial little hike. But if you are looking to make a vacation out of it, then you should consider hiking one of the best three hiking trials that this country has to offer. The trail will keep you fit, and the scenery will leave you breathless and wanting for more no matter which one you choose to hike.
